Santa Maria de Jesus huipil, likely used ceremonially.

This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two red cotton base panels. These panels are extensively decorated with supplementary brocade in diamond patterns characteristic of Santa Maria de Jesus daily huipils. It is not in the cofradia ceremonial style typical of the village, however, much of the brocade is in silk, indicating ceremonial use. The head opening is trimmed in velvet and has been modified for easier access. It has a zipper front opening. This classic example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Bonifacia Mendez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus at the Artesanos market in Antigua Guatemala. W 68 x L 140 cm opened. (11-96) Was $ 125. Now $ 90. OBO
