Santa Maria de Jesus vintage ceremonial huipil.

This circa-1960 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two cotton base panels with narrow red warp stripes. These panels are extensively decorated supplementary brocade in diamond patterns characteristic of Santa Maria de Jesus huipils, much of it in silk, indicating likely ceremonial use although it is not in the specifically ceremonial style of the village. The head and arm openings are trimmed in velvet. It has a zipper opening at the collar for easier access. It is in good condition with wear evident on the silk and one repaired hole. It was acquired from Juana Mateo Rosales of Panajachel. W 72 x L 134 cm opened. (11-94) Was $ 90. Now $60. OBO
