Santa Maria Chiquimula vintage ceremonial huipil.

This circa-1960 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two warp-striped cotton base panels partially joined by “randas”, hand embroidered decorative seams in silk. Hand embroidery in silk also surrounds the head opening. The use of silk indicates ceremonial use. Chiquimula ceremonial huipils are rare. This example is in very good condition. It was acquired from the “tienda” of Sr. Manuel Ramos in Chichicastenango. W 94 x L 89 cm. (23-26) $ 280 or best offer.
