Santa Maria Chiquimula ceremonial huipil.
This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two warp-striped cotton base panels joined
by “randas”, hand embroidered decorative seams. Hand embroidery in silk also surrounds the head opening. The use of silk indicates ceremoial use.
Chiquimula huipils are uncommon. This example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from an important private collection in Antigua Guatemala.
