Santa Cruz La Laguna is a Kaqchikel speaking town located on a shelf perched above the northern shore of Lake Atitlán in the Department of Sololá. It is primarily accessible by boat from Panajachel and then a steep foot path. A mini-real estate boom is now taking place below them as foreigners and rich Guatemalans buy up the shoreline. Its huipils are distinctive for the brocade only on the back, the design of which is said to mimic the reflection of light off the surface of the lake.
