Santa Catarina Palopo huipil.

Stylistically, this huipil is circa-1970. However, it is in like new condition and we suspect it is a retro piece done in an earlier style of this village where huipil styles have changed radically. This huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three red and white warp-striped cotton base panels. The center panel is wider, more heavily decorated and has different warp stripes. The panels are decorated with supplementary weft brocade in horizontal rows featuring plant, bird, people and geometric motifs. This fine example was acquired from Sra. Sophia Monroy Tepeú at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua. W 88 x L 65 cm. (17-90) $ 220. OBO
