Santa Apolonia huipil.

This post-1980 huipil has a base of a white cotton commercial fabric known as “manta”. The decoration is hand embroidered in geometric patterns carefully executed to look like brocade. The head and arm openings are trimmed with hand embroidered designs unique to Santa Apolonia. Typically, Santa Apolonia huipils have surface decoration only on one side and are waist length. This one is decorated on both sides and is dress length. We’ve never seen another one like it. Santa Apolonia huipils are increasingly rare. This very unique example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from an important private collection in Antigua Guatemala. W 81 x L 111 cm. (19-68) $ 200. OBO
