Santa Apolonia vintage daily huipil.

Typical of Santa Apolonia huipils, this circa-1960 huipil has a commercial “manta” cotton base decorated with hand embroidery. The embroidery across the back is done to look like brocade. The head and arm openings are intricately trimmed with hand embroidered designs in multi-colored stitches. These huipils are increasingly rare. This older example is relatively large and in excellent condition. It was acquired as part of the Vourvoulias Collection. Famed Guatemalan sculptor, Joyce Bush de Vourvoulias, brought her collection to the US in 1975. W86 x W64 cm. (12-61) $ 100.
