Santa Apolonia ceremonial huipil, almost certainly a copy.

This contemporary huipil was had woven on a back strap loom in two wide cotton, warp striped panels, primarily in brown. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade featuring corn plant and universal diamond motifs. Like all Santa Apolonia huipils, the decoration appears only on one side, the back. The head and arm openings are trimmed with hand embroidered, multi-colored buttonhole stitch. Used Santa Apolonia ceremonial huipils are very rare. This example is like new. It was acquired from Milagro Chavez at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua Guatemala. See Milagro’s picture in our “Vendors” section. W 120 x L 140 cm opened. (11-86) $ 210. OBO
