San Raymundo Sacatepequez ceremonial huipil.

This beautiful huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two well-matched, warp-striped cotton panels. These panels are decorated by supplementary brocade, some in silk, featuring bird and plumed serpent motifs. San Raymundo huipils are similar to nearby San Juan, but with more purple and greater color variety. Because some of the brocade is in silk, this huipil was likely used ceremonially. San Raymundo huipils are uncommon. This exceptional example is in excellent condition. Acquired from a private collection in Guatemala. W 105 x L 65 cm. (18-33) $450. OBO
