San Raymundo Sacatepequez vintage ceremonial faja (sash belt).

This circa-1970 faja was hand woven on a back strap loom in one panel featuring warp stripes in black and white. It is decorated with supplementary brocade in cotton and silk magenta and purple) depicting bird, plant and zoomorphic motifs. It has hand-braided fringes on both ends. The use of silk indicates its ceremonial use. This rare variety of faja is in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Estefana Culajah at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua Guatemala.
