San Raymundo Sacatepequez vintage huipil.
This 1970 or before huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two wide cotton panels
that were joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. These panels are decorated by supplementary brocade featuring animal, universal diamond and plumed
serpent motifs. Much of the base thread of this huipil is ixcaco, hand spun undyed naturally brown cotton. The use of ixcaco dates this huipil as being
older. San Raymundo huipils are similar to larger nearby San Juan, but with more purple and greater color variety. The head opening here is trimmed with a
hand embroidered chain stitch. San Raymundo huipils are uncommon. This exceptional example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Juana Mateo
Rosales of Panajachel. W105 x L127 cm opened. (10-149) $ 120. OBO
