San Raymundo Sacatepequez daily huipil. W111 x L131 cm opened. This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two wide cotton base panels that were joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. These panels are decorated by supplementary brocade featuring animal, bird and plumed serpent motifs. San Raymundo huipils are similar to larger nearby San Juan, but with more purple and greater color variety. The head hole is trimmed with a hand embroidered chain stitch. San Raymundo huipils are uncommon. This fine example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Milagro Chavez of San Juan Sacatepequez. (10-148) $ 120.
