San Rafael Petzal daily huipil.

This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three cotton/rayon blend panels, a fabric combination known as “aleman” and prized for its softness and drape. These panels are joined by elaborate hand embroidered decorative seams. The surface decoration features rows of supplementary brocade in bird and animal motifs. The head and arm openings are trimmed with hand embroidered chain stitch. It has a hand knotted fringe at the hem. It shares some characteristics of the larger nearby town of Colotenango. San Rafael Petzal huipils are rare. This beautiful example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Manuela Marroquin at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua. W 83 x L 46 cm plus fringes. (15-207) $190. OBO
