San Rafael Petzal daily huipil.

This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three maroon and white warp-striped cotton/rayon blend panels, a fabric combination known as “aleman” and prized for its softness and drape. These panels are joined by elaborate hand embroidered decorative seams. The surface decoration features rows of supplementary brocade in bird, animal, plant and universal diamond motifs. The head and arm openings are trimmed with hand crochet. It shares some characteristics of the larger nearby town of Colotenango. San Rafael Petzal huipils are rare. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Gladys Mendez Bocó at the Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua. W 92 x L 49 cm. (15-119) Was $170. Now $150 or best offer.
