San Pedro Sacatepequez (G) ceremonial huipil. (W98 x L132 cm opened) Hand woven on a back strap loom in two panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. Dense supplementary brocade decoration featuring fanciful bird, animal and plant designs. A band of duality symbols runs across the shoulders. The collar features a heavily embroidered roll with a sunburst pattern. The arm holes are decorated with velvet and applique. This huipil was likely used in cofradia society ceremonies, weddings and other celebrations. Circa 1980. Excellent condition. Collected from Petronila Mendez Bocó of Sant Maria de Jesus.
