San Pedro Sacatepequez (G) “cofradia” ceremonial huipil.

This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back-strap loom in two white cotton panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade featuring sacred cieba tree, zoomorphic and plant motifs. Ceremonial huipils were used in cofradia society ceremonies, weddings and saint’s day celebrations. This example is in very good condition. It was acquired from a private collection in Oregon.
