San Pedro Sacatepequez (G) “cofradia” ceremonial huipil.
Hand woven on a back-strap loom in two wide white
cotton panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams in silk. Silk embroidered trim around the collar.
These panels are decorated with horizontal rows of supplementary brocade depicting the sacred ceiba tree
and zoomorphic motifs. This huipil was used in cofradia society ceremonies, weddings and saint’s day
celebrations. Circa 1970. This example is in excellent condition.
