San Pedro Sacatepequez (G) ceremonial huipil.
This fine huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two wide white cotton panels
joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. The panels are heavily decorated with extensive supplementary brocade featuring the sacred
cieba tree and zoomorphic motifs. The head opening is trimmed with a thick hand embroidered collar. All these features are typical of San
Pedro Sacatepéquez (G) ceremonial huipils. San Pedro Sacatepéquez (G) is an important weaving center that influences the styles of several
nearby towns such as Chuarrancho. This beautiful example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from a private collection in Guatemala.
W 110 x L 67 cm. (18-53) $225. OBO.
The lower photograph was taken in San Pedro Sacatepequez (G) by Frank Lee Mays.
