San Pedro Sacatepequez (G) ceremonial huipil.
From the Dr. Richard P. Mandell collection.
This fine post-1980 ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a
back strap loom in two wide white cotton panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. Heavily
decorated with extensive supplementary brocade, mainly in purple and some in silk, featuring the sacred cieba tree motif
and zoomorphic designs. The head opening is trimmed with a thick hand embroidered collar. All these
features are typical of the finest San Pedro Sacatepéquez (G) ceremonial huipils. San Pedro Sacatepéquez (G)
is an important weaving center that influences the styles of several nearby towns such as Chuarrancho. This
beautiful example is in excellent condition. W 128 x L 72 cm. (16-215) $ 550. OBO.
