This fine ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a backstrap loom in two well balanced cotton panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade utilizing “sedalina”, artificial silk. The principal motif across the chest is of the sacred ceiba tree. This huipil was used on days celebrating the village patron saint or other cofradia society ceremonies. Circa 1975. This fine huipil is part of the collection of the Centro de Textiles Tradicionales Nim Po’t in Antigua Guatemala. $450. (15-15)
