San Pedro Sacatepequez (G) ceremonial huipil. This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two wide white cotton base panels joined by
“randas”, hand embroidered decorative seams. These panels are decorated with extensive supplementary brocade featuring bird, animal and the sacred cieba
tree motifs. It is thought to be ceremonial because some of the brocade is in silk and it is decorated to the hem. This huipil was used in cofradia society
ceremonies, weddings and other celebrations. It is in very good condition. It was acquired from Ema and Carmen Tepeu of San Pedro Sacatepequez (G) at the
La Fuente market in Antigua Guatemala. W91 x L70 cm. (0-183) $ 130.
