San Pedro Sacatepéquez (Guatemala) is a major Kaqchikel speaking town in the Department of Guatemala just west of the capital city. “San Pedro Sacatepequez is acknowledged as an important weaving center and has influenced the weaving style of several other towns including Chuarrancho. . . Densely brocaded patterns in purple and red are characteristic of the ceremonial costumes of this area and may be a survival from an earlier era. . . . The ceiba tree is a common motif in San Pedro cofradia huipils.” (Altman and West, Threads of Identity, Fowler Museum, p. 176)
