San Pedro Ayampuc ceremonial huipil. W112 x L125 cm opened. This large pre-1980 ceremonial huipil was hand woven
on a back strap loom in two wide white cotton base panels. These panels feature dense supplementary brocade
decoration in red and purple horizontal bands. The head opening is trimmed with a hand embroidered chain stitch
in red. This huipil was used in cofradia society ceremonies, weddings and other celebrations. Ayampuc huipils
are essentially extinct as we don’t believe they are still being made. Hence, examples are very rare, especially
ceremonials. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Tomasa Calbó Mateo of
Chichicastenango. (9-103) $ 240. Sold.
