San Pedro Ayampuc daily huipil.
This huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton panels. These panels are decorated
with supplementary brocade in featuring a band of duality symbols around corn plant motifs. The head opening is trimmed with a
thick band of hand embroidery. Ayampuc huipils are essentially extinct as the town has been absorbed into Guatemala City and we
don’t believe this style huipil is still being made. Hence, examples are very rare. This example is in excellent condition. It
was acquired from Sra. Carmen Tepeú at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua Guatemala.
