San Pedro Ayampuc [San Antonio las Flores] ceremonial huipil.

This post-1980 ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two wide red cotton base panels decorated with dense supplementary brocade featuring a weft band of double-headed eagle motifs centered on both sides. Ayampuc huipils are essentially extinct. We don’t believe they are still being made and worn. Ceremonial examples are very rare. Our vendor said that this particular example is from San Antonio las Flores, a small aldea of Ayampuc. This very unique example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Sra. Carmen Tepeu at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua. W 106 x L 64 cm. (17-10) $ 300. OBO
