San Pedro Ayampuc ceremonial huipil.

This large pre-1980 ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two wide white cotton base panels decorated with dense supplementary brocade in red, blue and green weft stripes featuring zoomorphic motifs. This huipil was used in cofradia society ceremonies, weddings and other celebrations. Ayampuc huipils are essentially extinct. We don’t believe they are still being made and worn. Ceremonial examples are very rare. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Ana Carolina Ajanel at her tienda in Chichicastenango. W 99 x L 69 cm. (16-61) $ 300. OBO
