San Mateo Ixtatán huipil.

This exceptional post-1980 huipil is all hand embroidered on a double thickness of commercial “manta” cotton fabric. It is perfectly reversible and with the original collar, which features rows of appliqué ribbon on a cotton base. The principal pattern in the embroidery is of overlapping stars with complete coverage above and animal and plants embroidered on the exposed white base below. These huipils weigh 10-15 lbs. This uniquely good example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Sr. Francisco Mejia at the “bomberos” textile market in Panajachel. W 111 x L 75 cm. (19-156) $ 400 or best offer.
