San Martin Sacatepequez (aka, Chile Verde) ceremonial huipil.

This pre-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two red all cotton base panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. These panels are decorated by supplementary brocade featuring rows of bird and plant motifs typical of Chile Verde,, some in silk. The use of silk in San Martin Sacatepequez huipils is very rare and indicates ceremonial use. This huipil is in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Milagro Chavez of San Juan Sacatepequez at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua. W 87 x L 61 cm. (14-165) $ 300 or best offer.
