San Martin Sacatepequez (aka San Martin Chile Verde) huipil. W 73 x L 128 cm opened. This huipil is thought to be
pre-1970 because it is all cotton, unlike almost all more recent examples, and shows evidence of lengthy wear. It
was hand woven on a back strap loom in two red base panels. These panels are decorated by supplementary brocade
featuring universal diamond and plumed serpent motifs. This huipil is in good condition but there have been some
repairs. It was acquired from Tomasa Calbo Mateo at the “bomberos” textile market in Panajachel. (11-82) $ 90.
