San Martin Sacatepequez (aka Chile Verde) faja.
This post-1980 faja was hand woven on a back strap loom in one
primarily red cotton panel with widely spaced blue/green weft stripes. It has tight hand knotted fringes on both ends made from warp thread
endings. Each end has an large area of supplementary brocade in motifs typical of Chile Verde, especially the paired quetzal birds. Fajas from
Chile Verde are quite uncommon and because this one is so large and well decorated, it is clearly for ceremonial use. This unique item
was acquired from Ana Carolina Ajanel of Chichicastenango. (See Ana Carolina’s picture in our “Vendors” section.) W 31 x L 395 cm plus fringes.
(11-222) Was $ 140. Now $125 or best offer.
