San Martin Jilotepeque ceremonial huipil.
Hand woven on a back strap loom in two cotton panels joined by four hand embroidered decorative seams.
Supplementary brocade decoration, some in silk, featuring plumed serpent and geometric motifs. Velvet collar and arm opening trim and velvet applique “luna” on the chest.
Indigo dyed base thread. Very similar ceremonial huipils are worn in Sumpango, but all are woven in San Martin. Excellent condition. Circa 1980. Acquired
