San Lucas Toliman daily huipil.

This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two well-matched maroon panels. The base thread is a cotton/rayon blend known as “aleman” that is prized for its softness and drape. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade featuring rows of small animal and geometric motifs in traditional San Lucas patterns. The brocade threads have been left long on the inside, making this huipil much heavier that the typical huipil from this village. It is in excellent condition. This fine example was acquired from Ema and Carmen Tepeú at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua. W 83 x L 65 cm. (15-108) $ 100. OBO
