San Juan La Laguna ceremonial huipil.
This circa-2000 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two predominantly maroon and white warp-striped cotton blend panels. The material is called
“aleman” and is known for its softness and loose drape. The principal decoration is the hand embroidery that surrounds the head opening in a style unique to
San Juan La Laguna, in this case all in silk. This very unique example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Josefa Tocco of San Juan La Laguna
at the “bomberos” textile market in Panajachel. W 68 x L 58 cm. (19-152) $ 160 or best offer.
