San Jose Poaquil ceremonial (sobre) huipil.
W87 x L132 cm opened. This circa-1970 ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two cotton panels. The warp
threads of the base is ixcaco - hand spun naturaly brown cotton. It features the red band across the shoulders,
also typical of older huipils from nearby San Juan Comalapa, but wider in Poaquil. The supplementary brocade depicts bird
and plant motifs. This fine example is in very good condition. Older ceremonial huipils from Poaquil are rare. It was
acquired from Juana Mateo Rosales of Panajachel. (3-70) $ 140. OBO
