San José Poaquil vintage ceremonial (sobre) huipil.
This pre-1970 ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a back strap
loom in two brown cotton panels decorated with supplementary brocade, some of it in silk. Some of the weft stripes
are undyed, hand spun wool. It features the broad red band across the shoulders, typical of huipils from Poaquil
and older ones from nearby Comalapa. The supplementary brocade depicts floral motifs. Older ceremonial huipils
from Poaquil are rare. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired
from Maria Izabel Gonzales of Patzicia at the “bomberos” market in Panajachel. W 90 x L 63 cm. (16-60) $ 320. OBO
