San Jose Nacahuil daily huipil. W 84 x L 120 cm opened. This circa-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton base panels. These panels are joined by hand embroidered decorative seams and decorated with dense supplementary brocade featuring bird, animal and geometric motifs in an almost abstract mélange. San Jose Nacahuil huipils are influenced by the much larger and nearby San Pedro Sacatepéquez (G) huipils, but are much less common. The head opening of this huipil is trimmed with a hand embroidered buttonhole stitch in the San Pedro style. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Ema and Carmen Tepeu at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua Guatemala. See Ema and Carmen’s pictures in our “Vendors” section. (11-101) $ 95.
