San Ildefonso Ixtahuacan vintage ceremonial huipil.

This rare pre-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three warp-striped cotton panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. The surface decoration is both supplementary brocade and hand embroidery, the latter surrounding the head opening. Very well woven using the “soumak” technique of wrapped warp threads. It is considered ceremonial because of its unusually large size and fine quality. This unique example is in very good condition. It was acquired from a private collection in Santa Fe, NM. W104 x L51 cm. (16-155) $200. OBO
