San Ildefonso Ixtahuacán vintage daily huipil.

This pre-1970 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton base panels. These panels are joined by “randas”, hand embroidered decorative seams. The panels are decorated with supplementary brocade in geometric patterns typical of the area. The center panel is more extensively decorated. The weaving in San Ildefonso huipils resembles that of the huipil from nearby Colotenango in the use of supplementary brocade in the “soumak” style, but it is distinguished by the hand-embroidered decoration around the collar. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired as part of the Vourvoulias Collection. Famed Guatemalan sculptor, Joyce Bush de Vourvoulias, brought her collection to the US in 1975. W100 x L54 cm. (12-60) $ 165. OBO
