San Ildefonso Ixtahuacán daily huipil. W90 x L107 cm opened. This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three maroon and white striped cotton/rayon base panels, a blend called “aleman” that is prized for its softness and drape. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The panels are joined by hand embroidered decorative seams in the form of spiders. The San Ildefonso huipil resembles the huipil from nearby Colotenango in the use of supplementary brocade in the soumak style, but it is distinguished by the hand embroidery around the collar. The head and arm openings are trimmed by a hand embroiderey. This fine example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Ana Carolina Ajanel of Chichicastenango. (10-104) $ 175.
