San Antonio Palopó daily huipil. W86 x L170 cm opened. This contemporary daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three cotton base panels. These panels are joined by very fine hand embroidered decorative seams. The weaving features complex multi-colored warp stripes with very subtle ikat dye patterns, but it does not have supplementary brocade. These huipils are traditionally worn with multiple strands of gold beads. The collar is surrounded by a hand embroidered sun symbol and finished with a hand embroidered chain stitch. It is in excellent condition. It acquired from Lucia Tax Gomez of Santa Catarina Palopó at the “bomberos” market in Panajachel. (10-103) $ 60. SOLD.
