The scorpion belt. This post-1980 faja was hand woven on a back strap loom in a red cotton base. It features supplementary brocade depicting plants and scorpions. These belts are now being replaced in San Antonio Aguas Calientes by a style that utilizes the same brocade techniques that distinguish their huipils. Hence, fajas in this older style are increasingly uncommon. This fine example is in very good condition.
