San Antonio Aguas Calientes tzute.
This very fine poat-1980 tzute was hand woven on a back strap loom in two panels that are joined by a hand embroidered decorative seam. Almost the
entire surface of this tzute is covered by “marcador” decoration, double supplementary weft brocade, where the design appears equally on both sides. San Antonio
Aguas Calientes is the only locality to employ this difficult technique and, as a result, items from this village are often considered the finest weavings in
Guatemala. On this piece, both ends are finished with multiple colors of hand embroidery. These pieces are often used ceremonially. This one was collected from
Petronila Mendez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus. W70 x L110 cm. (7-134) $ 275. OBO
