San Antonio Aguas Calientes faja. (sash/belt)
This circa-1980 faja was hand woven on a back strap loom. It features warp patterns depicting
flowers, shrimp and, most notably, scorpions. These traditional belts have now largely been replaced in San Antonio Aguas Calientes by a style
that incorporates the double supplementary weft brocade of their huipils. Hence, “scorpion belts”, such as this one, are no longer made and
older ones are highly collectible. This faja is in very good condition.
It was acquired from the Museo de Tejido Antiguo in San Antonio Aguas Calientes. W 5 x L 260 cm plus ties.(23-46) $ 100 or best offer..
