San Antonio Aguas Calientes tzute.

This circa-1980 tzute was hand woven on a back strap loom in two perfectly balanced warp striped cotton base panels. These panels are decorated with double supplementary weft brocade, where the design appears equally on both sides, locally called “marcador”. San Antonio Aguas Calientes is the only locality to employ this difficult technique and, as a result, items from this village are often considered the finest weavings in Guatemala. This example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from the collection of Margot Blum Schevill who acquired it in 1989. W 81 x L 101 cm. (20-04) $ 200. OBO
