San Antonio Aguas Calientes huipil panel.
Could be used as a table runner. This circa-1990 huipil panel was finely woven on a back strap
loom in one blue cotton panel that is decorated with supplementary brocade, primarily in rows of geometric patterns, a style associated with
older examples. The unique feature of San Antonio A.C. weaving is the "marcador" decoration, usually in floral and bird patterns, which is in
double supplementary weft brocade, with the design appearing equally on both sides. This type of weaving is only done in this village. Items
from San Antonio A. C. are often considered the best woven among the Maya of Guatemala and the prestige of their style influences that of many
nearby villages. This unique example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from the collection of Margot Blum Schevill.
