San Antonio Aguas Calientes huipil de nina.
This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two well-matched
cotton panels. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade, with double supplementary brocade producing the floral
motifs across the shoulders. This is the only village that utilizes this difficult weaving technique, also known as “marcador”.
This example mixes geometric with “marcador” patterns. The head opening is trimmed in velvet and it has two velvet “lunas”.
Aguas Calientes huipils are prestigious. This example is in excellent condition. Acquired from Sra. Estefana Culajah at the
La Fuente textile market in Antigua. W 39 x L 34 cm. (16-190) $ 45. OBO
