San Antonio Aguas Calientes faja – woman’s sash.

This circa-1980 faja was hand woven on a back strap loom in cotton. It features patterns depicting plants, flowers, birds and butterflys. These belts are now being replaced in San Antonio Aguas Calientes by a style that incorporates the double supplementary weft brocade of their huipils and, hence, examples such as this are increasingly uncommon. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Sr. Pedro Xiloj, the belt specialist at the Chichicastenango market. W 6 x L 292 cm plus ties. (16-123) $65. OBO
