San Antonio Aguas Calientes huipil. H: 27”, W: 30”. Code: M5. This huipil was hand woven on a backstrap loom in two well matched cotton panels.
The surface decoration in “sedalina” is supplementary brocade. The pictorial sections of decoration are double supplementary weft brocade, a weaving
technique done only in San Antonio Aguas Calientes, causing the women of that town to be widely considered the best weavers in Guatemala. The decoration
features techniques called “pepita” (coffee seeds), and “pata de chucho” (mark of the dog). Circa 1975. This fine huipil is part of the collection of the
Centro de Textiles Tradicionales Nim Po’t in Antigua Guatemala. $400.00. (15-22)
