San Andres Xecul is a Quiche speaking town in the Department of Totonicapán. It is famous for its yellow church known for the indigenous quality of its decoration. “Huipils of . . . San Andres Xecul . . are made of commercial cotton in white or a variety of pastel colors. [They are] long, worn under the skirt to the knees [and with] necklines encircled with a wide yoke of embroidery in multicolored threads. The embroidered designs of San Andres Xecul are animals and birds in organized circles, row after row with scallops or points.” (Altman and West, Threads of Identity, Fowler Museum, p. 153)
